Thrifty Finds: Cathrineholm Enamelware
Have you heard of Cathrineholm Enamelware? I had seen the iconic lotus leaf pattern before, but other than that I didn’t know much about it. Then, I saw these three bowls at a local thrift store where all the proceeds support a local animal shelter. They caught my eye. They were not in perfect condition, but I liked the mid-century modern look to them.
I turned the bowls over and saw the Cathrineholm stamp. They had some scratches and one of the bowls was a little faded, but the blue and white color was classic and they were reasonably priced at all 3 for $15. Sold.
When I got home I googled Cathrineholm and here is what I found out:
Catherineholm is not the name of a person, but the name of a factory in Norway.
The factory made many things, but evolved into producing enameled kitchenware
The Lotus pattern was in production from 1962 through 1965 and is one of their most popular patterns.

These pieces are highly sought after and fetch high prices on Ebay and Etsy due to their popularity.
I’m kind of loving my new thrifty find. I think I’ll keep my eye out for more.
I learned how to display them in a way that all three can be admired from Kelly at Eclectically Vintage by elevating each bowl with a book.

I was wondering how you got them to behave so nicely! I love the pretty blue color of your bowls. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen them before, but they are an attractive set to display.

I’ve never heard of Cathrineholm but you know I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled at the thrift shop now! So glad you used my book display method – the best way to see all 3 beauties at once!

In 1970/1971 when I lived in Bicester, Oxfordshire there was a party plan called (I think) Suki and they sold Catherinholm items. I bought a dark blue large saucepan and a white and orange enaml milk pan with a wooden handle. Had I known that they would become collectible today, I would have kept them.

I recently came across 5 pieces of Cathrine Holm cookware. Fry pan, sauce pan, stew pot with lid, coffee pot and small sauce pan with spout. I am trying to sell these for a customer of mine, but I’m having difficulty doing so. Any suggestions would be helpful. I’m not looking to sell them for a fortune maybe like $20 a piece.
