Small Confession – sometimes my projects don’t go as planned. I think I have this brilliant idea and then it doesn’t quite pan out. Something goes terribly wrong. Like the time I made chocolate dipped candied orange peel. I painstakingly peeled, sliced, and boiled orange rinds in sugar water. Then dried them before dipping these delicacies in fine chocolate only to have them look like tadpoles on a plate. I have the pictures to prove it. You know I do.
Not even Photoshop could save these puppies, or should I say guppies? They did not turn out to be the “pin” worthy treats I was expecting. If I knew something about tempering chocolate maybe I would know what went wrong.
Project FAIL
Then there was the dyed curtain fiasco where I show you how clever I am at repurposing curtains. I was going to take some green curtains I already owned, remove the color and re-dye them a blue color and you would think I was a frugal and creative genius. I’ve used color remover before and it worked, but for some reason it didn’t work this time. The curtains were the same green color they started out as, but I didn’t stop here. I still continued with the process of dying the curtains blue.
Oh, and you can be sure I have all the photographic proof.
Oh, and you can be sure I have all the photographic proof.
After several hours and $20 spent on products I ended up with the same exact color I started with.
Project FAIL
My most recent project fail is the owl cookie jar. I was browsing Habitat ReStore this week and came upon this owl cookie jar.
Do you see the potential? No? Neither did I at first. (Note to self : Trust your gut instincts.) I walked away at first. In fact I walked away three times, but kept coming back to this ugly duckling wondering if it could be transformed into a beautiful swan. I even googled Anthropologie on my iPhone to look up owl cookie jars and found this one.
It even has the winking eye. It was obviously meant to be.
Could this be the project? The one that would have people flocking to be followers. We’ll you can be the judge.
Okay, you can stop laughing now.

I love this quote from Mary Lou Cook –
“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.”
I love that she included making mistakes as part of being creative.

Have a wonderful week!

Okay, okay. I’ve stopped giggling. But I can’t help but think that owl looks a little stoned.
Also, pretty much every project I take on turns into a disaster. But I keep trying, dangit. One of these days I’ll it right!

Okay, that made me laugh. Wink.

Oh, we’ve (excuse me, I’m still laughing….with you, not at you) all been there, more than we care to admit.
This post is a hoot!

HAHAHAHA!! Thank you so much for this candid look at your fails. When reading blogs, you always see these gorgeous things people make–very rarely do get to peek behind the curtains and see the ones that went wrong. This made me feel a LOT better about my own project fails! Thanks!

I’m new here from TDC and after reading this post, I’m a follower! So nice to know someone else has project fails! The cookie jar…maybe it could star in a horror flick with Chuckie!

Well, if you think those chocolate covered orange peels look like tadpoles, let me tell you what I thought I was seeing…….choc covered zucchini!!! Yep, the little thumbnail at Wow Us Wednesday looked, to me, like squash! I just had to click on this and see what the heck you were thinking. Orange peels make sense, and you shouldn’t feel bad about considering it a failure, but squash would have been sick! Now THAT would have been a failure…..from the beginning! Great post.

I love your honesty! This made me smile and laugh 🙂 I’ve had my share of flops and fails since I started blogging about my crafting adventures and I always make sure to include the good and the bad.
Good for you for trying to give that owl a new life! I don’t think anything could have saved it 🙂

Thanks for sharing “fails”…it makes me realize I’m not the only one with some less than praise worthy results. Your owl looks like he just came from a beer brawl. Could he possibly be a white elephant Christmas gift? I would so give it to my sister!!!

SO funny! I don’t think the owl is all that bad. Okay, it does look a bit like he has a black eye instead of winking but at least you tried. You never know what magic you might make if you just try. I love your blog and am off to follow you on FaceBook.

Hilarious! I have had plenty of fails of my own. Plenty!
When I first clicked on this post I’m sorry to say that I thought the fruit dipped in chocolate was stinkhorn mushrooms! I was like, how can she bear to get that close to that many stinkhorns on a plate in order to photograph them! Lol!
I love this post, so funny, and your blog is beautiful.
