I found this side table at a local shop for $18. It was a pale pink color (not particularly attractive), but solid wood and in good shape.
(before)
I gave it one coat of Annie Sloan chalk paint in Arles. Arles is a yellow/ochre color. I painted right over the pink. When it was dry, I brushed on a coat of clear wax followed by a coat of dark wax.
The dark wax really added some depth to the finish. It looks similar to grain paint.
Tip: Use a clear coat of wax under a dark coat of wax so that the paint doesn’t get stained or dirty looking.
I’ve been playing with acrylic paint and canvas and having a lot of fun with it – following the DIY Impressionist Landscape Art tutorial, but not doing a white wash over it.
